This is an adventure cut short, from a forest knocked down some 30 years ago; an adventure to Panhandle Lake in the Mt Margaret backcountry of Mt St Helens National Volcanic Monument.

a sweet little adventure, out with a friend to friends.
A sky of stars descending, each one dancing in the heat of a fire.
The fire wavering, leaping, glowing.
Song, sounds, music, drums ringing, calling, giving.
to the sweet cool air all about. 

Rooster Rock Star Party

Went to a star party in the gorge last night and got to gaze at the stars through astronomers telescopes. The Rose City Astronomers is a portland group affiliated with OMSI that holds monthly lectures and frequent star parties to go enjoy the stars and share knowledge. Some friends and I got together and headed up the gorge to rooster rock to partake. The location is somewhat removed from city glow, but the wester sky is still muddy, and washugal/camas lights can also be seen. There were a good 2 dozen telescope out, and binoculars and cameras too.

Outside Red Rocks, Calico Basin, Las Vegas

Vegas strip last night was bogus,  a nice walk, but We wanted nature, earth, desert – so we headed to calico basin to catch some red rocks, stars, and fresh air.  I didn’t end up getting many images of the surrounding folds of rocks as I look back.  Nor any of the Petroglyphs.  I was more interested in gaping and clambering over some boulders, maybe a friend will post some and I can link to them.  So here is what I did catch

Perseids and Lava field

The floating mountain was my favourite feature in the Gifford Pinochet experimental forest.  The Perseids meteors were great too, but during the day, I really enjoyed the floating wave welling up above the gently forested hills.  the day was full of berry picking, and boy am I glad we made it out, cause we almost didn’t.
